As a result of recent technological developments and health care reform-related economic issues, the demand for technologists with advanced professional training and credentialing in CT and MRI is growing rapidly.
CSUN's Tseng College – in collaboration with the university's College of Health and Human Development – has designed a program that enables working professionals to obtain Certificates of Advanced Professional Development in both CT and MRI in one year. (If undertaken separately, earning the two certificates may take approximately 1.5-2 years.)
This program is designed for radiologic technologists who 1) have passed a college algebra or higher within the last 5 years, 2) possess diplomas or degrees from accredited radiologic technology or nuclear medicine programs and national certificates in radiography, or nuclear medicine from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), and 3) wish to move ahead in their careers. The curriculum for the CT/MRI combination program consists of two parts: four online courses plus an intensive clinical-education experience.
- The CT program provides 355 hours of clinical education.
- The MRI program provides 355 hours of clinical education.
- Both programs prepare graduates to qualify for and pass the American Registry of Radiation Technologists (ARRT) Advanced Certification Examination.
- Both programs award internationally recognized continuing education units (CEUs): 43 CEUs for CT and 44.5 CEUs for MRI, which will be recorded on students' CSUN transcripts.
Please note, the CEUs earned in the certificate program is for CSUN credit only. These CEUs cannot be used towards licensure/certificate.
Applicants must show proof of successful completion of College Algebra (or equivalency) or a higher level of math preferably within the past 5 years from a regionally-accredited institution. (College Algebra at CSUN = MATH 102.)
By completing XRAD 901 with a 75% on the final exam, students may also earn 39 Category A ECE credit from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (Pending ASRT approval).
